Democrats.org has a post called "John McCain Should Denounce Hagee Endorsement, Anti-Catholic Remarks" that's worth checking out...
In his struggle to shore up his base, John McCain has once again cast aside his principles by embracing Rev. John Hagee, saying he was "pleased to have the endorsement of Pastor John Hagee," despite his intolerant comments about Catholics, women, African Americans, Muslims and LGBT Americans.

It's "rum, Romanism and rebellion" all over again. The GOP has had a "catholic problem" ever since it began in 1856. McCain, however, knows better, especially if he had two of his daughters educated in Catholic schools. (Maybe he should've sat in on some classes.)
The fact he allowed himself to be used by Hagee is only mysterious if we think back on the old "straight-talking" John McCain of 2000 who then had the backbone to stand up to bullies like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell.
In the long run, it might just be that good old fashioned WASP mentality still polluting the RNC headquarters in Washington.
What were his advisors feeding him this time? Hagee is plainly radioactive outside of most far-right wing evangelical circles. His views about Catholicism are plainly abhorrent. And while McCain says he doesn't agree with all of what Hagee stands for, he nevertheless allowed himself to be used by the Louis Farrakhan of the Religious Right. (On the other hand, his new buddy, W, hasn't completely dissed Hagee either. Nor Sen. K. Baily Hutchison who gamely replied to Salon when asked about the megachurchianity preacher's views, that Hagee represented a large church, blah, blah, and more blah. So much for political courage from her. Oh, yes he has a large church, and in political-speak that translates directly into campaign dough and votes. What a profile in weaselry!
Now it's McCain's slowness and silence in the aftermath of Catholic League and Salon.com's blowing the lid on this doozy that has me really wondering if indeed the GOP still wants to remain the WASP Party, and openly ditch "compassionate conservatism," Bush's (thankfully) pro-life stands on abortion. If this is the kind of mentality the party of Lincoln and TR is showing now, what would a McCain presidency be like for Catholics in general?
Grim. I suppose a good reason why McCain surprised so many people for his Phoenix-like defeat of his other contenders is that he dropped "straight talking" altogether (except to berate reporters) and started straight sucking up to a guy who called our Church the "whore of Babylon."
Well: Who's whoring whom now?
